About JytteHi! My name is Jytte, the gal that creates all of these one of a kind beanies that are branded JYTTE®. They truly are manufactured here in the Rocky Mountains of the USA, in Hailey, Idaho. The knitting machines are running, the gang is sewing, the dogs are hanging out and I am co-ordinating designs, colors, yarn, customers and production.
Here’s my story: I was born in Denmark and immigrated to Canada as a little girl. My parents arrived speaking only Danish and German, our worldly possessions in their hands, ready to start a new life adventure in America. I grew up in a very strict old Euro family where work ethic was ingrained, manners were not questioned and knitting was a right of passage. |
As a teenager there was a definite struggle of wills and passion. To have an unusual name, to curtsy on introductions, to eat real German ethnic food and unravel a sweater to knit a bathing suit was an automatic… you’re different. Luckily my dad had instilled outdoor experiences of skiing, biking, camping, animals and traveling.
To get from there to JYTTE® beanies has been a journey of the heart, passion and humor. I never lost my passion for the outdoors, mainly skiing. My adventures have taken me from Whistler, BC to Sun Valley, ID. Backcountry and heli-skiing thru BC. I’ve had the opportunity of filming with Dick Barrymore and meeting some amazing people who encouraged and supported my talents.
For years I designed and developed product for established companies in the Outdoor Industry. Salomon, Swix, Descente, Demetre, Burton, Wigwam, Marmot, Mountain Hardware to name a few.
In 1998 I stepped away from all my consulting work and built the original 5000 sq ft factory in Wood River Valley of Idaho. We purchased European CNC knitting machines, sourced the finest merino wool, worked with domestic dye houses, employed local residents and created the only knitting mill in the state of Idaho to make JYTTE® beanies. In 2009 I moved the facility up the highway to our current location in the Hailey Airport Industrial Park. The new facility houses our manufacturing and a showroom for both retail and custom display.
Colorful, unique, quality, environmental, pride, integrity towards our workplace and community are words that describe our product and company. We are a very unusual company making a very unique product which has evolved from my passions and lifestyle and translated into beanies that are authentic, colorful, fun and quality. Our beanies are coveted by people who gravitate to those qualities in their own life. Our patterns and colorations are constantly changing reflecting the experiences that are ongoing. Our custom clients are worldwide, as no one offers the service and product that we do.
Real product for real people. Really living life!
But we don’t stop there. We are thinking up ways to recycle our scraps and not impact our mountain environment with trash. Our excess micro fleece remnants are sewn into cat beds, both sold and donated to rescue shelters and clinics. We creatively make products from our knit fabric remnants. Fun and original items such as teddy bears, pouches, mitts and cat toys that we sell in our showroom exclusively on a limited offering.
Thank you for helping to complete the circle of these lifestyle passions and our venture by purchasing and wearing our beanies. Know that you are supporting everything from true local craftsmanship, a minimal eco footprint, dogs in the workplace through to the adventures and stories that create the fabric designs we develop.
We don’t just talk it, we live it, we design it, we make it... so you can go and play in it!
Safe journeys & have fun!
